THAT ALTERNATIVE I’VE EXPOUNDED MORE THAN ONCE
AND I KEEP VOICING IT ALL THE TIME

Georgi Vanyan
Interview Vesti.az with the chairman of Caucasus Center of Peace-Making Initiatives Georgi Vanyan

As a whole, what would your comment on the result of the elections for the Union of Elders of Yerevan?

I had an opportunity to comment about the possible results even before the beginning of the elections. The question of Levon Ter - Petrosyan’s victory was not on the agenda of the government. And whatever was supposed to happen did happen.

Levon Ter - Petrosyan functioned as a regular attribute in a so-called election process of Armenia. Everything falls into place.

How democratic was this elections process? How democratic can elections be in a non - democratic country?

How do you explain the low percentage of voters in these elections?

That was an adequate answer from residents of Yerevan to the leaders of the National Congress with Levon Ter - Petrosyan in the lead, who sent home a multiplying critical mass of a multi - thousand demonstrations, after the events that took place on March 1.

Should acts of protest be expected from the opposition, due to their disagreement with the results of the elections?

Protesting the results of the elections will possibly be accompanied by «on duty» acts of the National congress, which already has taken the niche of «on duty» opposition.

As a whole, in your opinion, will there be an internal - political situation on Armenia?

I have talked more then once about the absence of internal - political processes, and following that, the absence of internal - political situation in Armenia. That’s why, the expectation of any kind of a future, which differs from the past or the present, can be put in a form of the question: when will real internal - political processes finally begin in our country? The fact that Armenia under Serge Sargsyan differs from the Armeinia, which was under Robert Kocharian, there is no contest, for me anyway. The pseudo - national public - political thought is agonizing, and that process alone cannot be ignored.

An alternative must appear on the public - political front: the idea of coexisting in neighborliness and open borders. I’ve expounded that alternative more than once and I keep voicing it all the time. I subordinate my activities to that idea. I am certain that sooner or later the citizen of Armenia will choose his or her future, will choose a prospering and a blooming Armenia in conditions of peaceful cooperation with neighbors, Armenia with open borders. The sooner this choice is made, the less losses there will be.
